Netflix’s failed adaptation of JD Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy is a clear attempt to appeal to the industry through tragic tales and human emotion. While they try to tell a story of drug addiction, domestic abuse, and poverty, they portray the themes as superficial and “fixable.” In a failed attempt at using groundbreaking cinematic elements, Ron Howard creates a film that is both confusing and messy. A two-hour waste of time, I will NEVER be watching this again. The actors CARRIED this movie, and I will stand by that. I hope their talents are put to better use in the future <3.
