Slow, ponderous, I fell asleep towards the end and had to scroll back to see who and why he died. No way a best film contender ZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Can't understand the mediocre reveiws here; this is a monster of a film, accurately, but probably not as harshly, showing the events that took place under the sadistic Japanese army of prisoners of war. The forgiveness that was shown to the guards by the star of the film, and in the real world, would not be shared by all! Its a hard watch, but an excellent portrayal of a wonderful story, worth the 5 stars.

Really thought provoking film of a "traveller" attempting to move away from the family pack - must admit though, I was routing for the police at the end!

Superb epic of the D Day landings.

Not as bad as other reviews state, I enjoyed it and I'd give it 3 / 4 but up it to 4 because of Arnie's "acting"! Like a previous review, although the theme is dark, the acting & the story are good enough to see the film through.

The reviews here are false or the people are just weird. This is an awful movie, full of Depp doing his version of Terry Thomas (a classic Eanglish comic actor!) Which starts grating from 5mins into the movie. Terrible, avoid at all costs!
