(SPOILERS) the cgi and animal design was really top notch and amazing, but the movie is just full of old washed up actors hanging onto relevance and failing miserably. the main little girl, milly, keeps going on and on about how her mother is dead, when it didn’t need to be done. i think the story might’ve been better if they revealed it later on to help with more emotional connection to the characters, but they didn’t. speaking of which, you don’t get attached to the characters at all, so when something sad/bad happens to them, you don’t really care. when you’re watching it, you don’t know what time period it is in at all. it’s supposed to be 1919, but they have this over the top technology and more modern clothes, so you can’t tell. sure, that could be a design choice by tim burton, but it doesn’t work well at all. speaking of which, tim burton should just stick to directing creepy movies, not heartwarming ones.
