My husband and I have had a tradition with this film for a long time. We watch it every year, on July 4, and despite all the times I've seen it and the fact that I know the script by heart, it continues to move us to tears by the end. The emotional power of this film is simply undeniable. There's the respect both sides have for each other, even as they're engaged in a terrible, brutal war. There's the love of country both sides possess, even as they don't agree how it should be governed. There's the sense of honor both sides demonstrate, even as they have starkly opposite goals. It's a remarkable film and the re-enacters, many of whom are wearing original uniforms stored in their attic, make it very special. Filmed onsite at Gettysburg National Park, this film possesses its own unique aura. Enjoy!
