As with most avid call of duty players, I will always compare to the previous title, in this case MODERN WARFARE.
Black Ops Cold War is a huge step back. The movement is bulky, the mechanics feel half finished, and the maps are poorly designed. Why?
When you run it feels like you're moving at snails pace, when aiming on an enemy they seem to be moving at light speed, it's not that they are, it's just the game engine doesn't seem to be able to consistently keep up.
Movement is not fluid, its not smooth and by no means does it feel like a complete game. There's minor improvement to the Alpha release, however the Alpha release was unfinished, much like the full released game.
Map routes are a haven for unthought out design, no real thought seems to have been put into the way the characters move, the game mechanics and how the map designs fit with these.
Time to kill is good, some weapons faster than others which adds a good balance, however it is inconsistent. One minute I can kill an enemy player in 2 shots to the head, the next it takes 3. This has been tested and happens often. It allows for frustrating play when online with others.
The game mechanics do not allow for smooth play, jumping into a crouch slide is the equivilant to Minecraft Steve racing down a waterside. It's fun, but utterly useless.
Sound is awful, my headset is steelseries arcfis 7p so not cheap by any means, in all other call of duty games they work perfectly fine, great directional awareness, incredible ambient sounds and amazing Sound FX. In Black Ops Cold War? The sound is muffled, almost useless. You know what you're hearing, but directionally makes no sense.
I honestly can not understand for the life of me how anyone can rate this game more than 2 stars. Its an unfinished, unpolished, no thought, creative lacking game made for fools that want to throw money away, wait a few months at least until they have a full game and you may be able to play it, for now. Its awful, complete fraud to even release it in this state,
The only positive I have so far is the Zombie mode, this feels thought out, its fun to play, and works.
As for campaign, I haven't played yet so I cannot comment.
I'm hoping they improve these issues in time and make the game playable, for now, it's a waste of money. It's unfinished and not thought out at all.
Should you buy it?
If I could have the choice to return it, I would, and I'd return it as faulty.
