I reviewed this game when I was a wee lad and didn’t quite understand the grind of survival. After giving it another shot and really putting some time and effort into it, I really love this game. It is very difficult and really is not for a casual gamer. I would highly recommend you read up on some how to’s or watch social media videos to help you get started. I do wish this game would receive an update, and have localized spawn points for when you play with friends, but this is a survival game and they are definitely living up to the hardcore portion of hardcore survival.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1

It’s a cash grab, but unfortunately a successful one from me as I paid full price. The ports are pretty rough. Not much in they way of graphical improvement and for MGS1 there is no wide screen support. So unless your TV has the ability to force into into wide screen, there are annoying side bars on each side of the play screen. Kind of annoying. The games are fun, and I suckered for them. However I wish I waited until it was on sale. I regret paying full price as these ports offer no improvement except you can play on your current console and earn trophies. If you don’t care about either of those things, wait until it’s on sale or just pull out your old PlayStation

The story, and visuals of the game are great, but not enough to make up for the boring combat, and clunky movements. Combat is very underwhelming and one dimensional. There are multiple attacks, and skill trees to level them up, but I just find myself smashing R2 the whole time or holding it down for power moves. There is no roll or evade, so all you can do is just keep everyone in front of you and smash R2 and block. The rooftop jumping and air gliding just isn’t as smooth. For someone coming directly from dying light 2, you will just find yourself wanting more. The game isn’t as scary as I was hoping, they throw in some jump scares and horror elements, but not enough to envelop me in the horrifying events supposedly taking over Tokyo. Overall it’s an average game, and I’m a little upset I spent 60 on it. If you MUST play, wait until it’s on sale or buy used. 6/10

PS5 Review: Calisto Protocol is a spiritual successor to Dead Space. If you have any experience, or found enjoyment in each of the Dead Space games, you will enjoy this game. A lot of the same aspects from Dead Space are included in this game. and they also trickle in some small bits from The Last of Us. However, this game has a tendency to focus more on melee combat rather than utilizing plasma cutters like in Dead Space. I will admit, the fighting system does remind me a lot of a boxing game, utilizing your analog sticks to dodge left or right, and block by moving downward. The fighting feels more like an intense action sequence on repeat, but once you get it down pat, and upgrade your weapons, getting combos together without taking damage is so satisfying and a lot more fun than other reviews are saying. I will admit that fighting multiple enemies at once is challenging, and can lead you into being backed into a corner, but again, once you get the combat system down pat, it comes more naturally. The graphics are amazing, peering out into the beyond and exploring the dark depths of Black Iron Prison is horrifying and beautiful. The gore is spectacular. The sound in this game is great paired with headphones. I have had no issues with stuttering or performance in my entire playthrough. The story is somewhat lackluster so far, nothing exceptional, but certainly enough to keep you engaged and locked in on the action. I paid the full 69.99 price for this game, and although I loved every minute of it, it was just a little too short for a single player game with no new game + feature or any additional content. I do recommend this game to anyone that's a fan of the Dead Space Franchise, or a fan of any horror survival game. TL;DR: Combat system a little whacky, but fun once you get it down. Looks/sounds great on a PS5. Story is short. 4.25/5 I would recommend purchasing this on sale as $69.99 is too expensive for a single player with no current replay value. I totally understand that pre-orders and purchases at full price leads to a high chance of a follow-up, but I am just being honest. (Disclosure: They are intending to add a new game + feature in march, and slowly release more content, including story content, through the summer of 2023).

This is a fantastic game with almost entirely too much to do. I have put in over 100 hours into this game and have loved every moment of it. However, if you are new to souls like games, or need a lot of direction when it comes to massive games, so casual gamers, dads that don’t have much time to game, or are new to the series might not enjoy the game, and might be upset about it. My only suggestion to you if you fall in these categories is to play along with strategy guides. I will say the game does get easier once you start memorizing attack patterns and leveling up, just know there can be a steep learning curve, but I digress. The large bosses found in the game, intertwining storylines/side quests, beautiful graphics, and challenging gameplay make this game so worth it. Developing your character with timing and precision while maximizing your attribute scaling of your weapons you acquire adds to the joy of the game. Co-op gameplay is a great time. And although it is unique in some ways, connecting co-op gameplay with your buddies is a pain, and I don’t feel it should be that difficult to connect. You cannot ride your horses or summon npc help while in co-op games either. They also disappear from your game after you clear an area boss. I just feel the co-op gameplay could have been more fluid. Regardless of the clunky multiplayer with friends, it’s not enough to steer the hardcore gamer away. I definitely recommend this game, and paid full price on the game. I would gladly do it again. However if you are new or are afraid it’s going to be too hard, rent it or borrow it off someone before you buy it, also be patient if you do decide to give it a whirl. 9/10

I really enjoyed this game a lot. However, I should provide a disclaimer that I did not play dying light 1. A lot of the complaints I’ve heard from friends, were friends that have played the previous installment. I put in over 70 hours of gameplay. It got to a point where I had 40 hours into the game, and got so enveloped with side missions and miscellaneous activity, that I completely forgot about the main story. There is a ton to do, and it is a very large environment. One thing I do wish this game had was Guns. *possible minor lore spoiler* I understand that a part of the storyline was that guns basically went extinct, but felt it was a cop out. The melee and parkour combat is fun, but I feel a large attraction to zombie games is the ability to mow a bunch down with some BA guns. That’s not the case here. There is the ability to craft a flintlock style gun, but it’s only one shot, and unless you scavenge a ton, you’re not gonna be able to just craft 1000s of them at a time. Would have done well with just even some simple guns, or late game gun availability. None at all just felt like a cop out. Another gripe is the co-op. You can’t advance the plot of both players at once, it’s kind of annoying that if I play co-op with a friend, that I’ll have to redo it on my own. It is a ton of fun to play with a friend, but would be nice if everyone’s game progressed at the same time. You do have the ability to level up across co-op games, but storylines do not progress together Overall it is a fun game, I paid full price and would do it again. However if you’re a bargain shopper, don’t be afraid to wait for a sale. Especially those that may be coming from DL1. In short, it’s basically a zombie version of almost any of your favorite RPG, with parkour. Large scale environment with lots to do, not too difficult, and easy to pick up and play. Co-op is fun. Wish there were guns and real-time co-op progression but not enough to stear me away. 8.5/10

It’s actually a pretty decent RPG. I haven’t experienced any game breaking bugs while playing on my PS5, but there are at times where characters will render through walls, or magically disappeared. So mostly laughable experiences with bugs. A gripe I have with the game itself though is the AI. They’re not as intelligent as I was hoping. Sneaking can be very easy at times. The hacking features are surprisingly fun and useful for certain situations. What I do love about this game is that it provides you with all sorts of different ways to play. The story keeps you in tune, and sucks you in. Certainly not the most perfect RPG, but definitely worth a go through if you’re looking for something. I would be remiss if I did not tell you I purchased this on sale. I Would recommend you get this on sale. I purchased this on the PlayStation Black Friday sale for 20 some odd dollars.
