Rose Darling

I loved this series until the Garvey's started getting phased out. The other young families didn't quite cut it after that. It was classic holiday everyday humour, so simple and yet I could not have written it myself. I hadn't laughed genuinely at a sitcom in a long time before I watched this series. British comedy gold.

A very slow moving drama and it could have been shortened to two or three episodes. I fast forwarded episode five to the last ten minutes and I felt like I missed nothing at all. The ending was rubbish. On the plus side the production wasn't cheap and the acting didn't feel hammy but the script definitely felt old. I am not fond of many film noir, 1940s matinee productions. The twenty first century doesn't need to see a programme like this reproduced.

It's good, very good. There are several dubious subplots and characters but it balances out to be better than the UK version. The writing is not bad and the acting that goes along with it is impressive. It is clever that although Fiona and Lip (the most unlikeable out of the Gallagher clan and with the most lines) look the part there is a real class difference in their behaviour that makes them look like they were raised by wolves and Fiona comes across as stupid once she is talking about something other than her feelings. Her character becomes increasingly unlikeable, season 4 onwards and her upwardly mobile status occurred because of Carl's dubious deals despite her continued supposed stance on drugs and guns and she doesn't appear to share her wealth with her siblings, especially Carl. She should have paid for his military school fees without thinking..There is a lot to dislike about the characters but the series is very watchable.

I am entertained but I am also disgusted by Jerry, Elaine, Kramer and George enabling each others bad behaviour. They would soon behave better if they had no friends at all to bounce off of. They were all very spoilt, only children that have been allowed to get away with poor behaviours and they have reached adulthood without growing up. I find Jerry almost sociopathic as he smiles while he lets George whine about his sloppy and petty behaviours without telling him that he is not in the right. i am not asking for perfect behaviour but they are all consistently bad without any comeuppance and I can't believe how often George has success with women, even during his unemployed phase. Other than that it is a clever and witty show but the end was underwhelming.

This series had the misfortune of being up against Modern family. Compared to that series this was mediocre. It would have ben better if: 1) the series didn't rely too heavily on Frances Heck 2) the family in general was likeable - Axel never really improved, Sue never improved yet remained confident and Brick was annoyingly in his own world. Frances, so irritatingly disorganised yet insisted on babying her children all the time and never got better at doing anything right.. The series was more farce than funny or witty like Modern family and the focus was on this cast of five and therefore uninteresting for the most part. In short it was not that good. I think I watched it to see the characters evolve and improve or for Axel to grow as tall as his father but it never happened.

I may be the only one to think this but mommy Gilmore - Lorelai - just succeeded with Rory where her parents failed with her! She was wilful, headstrong and had no idea what side her bread was buttered on and Rory was docile and easily overpowered because she was naturally meek and introverted. Lorelai supposedly read a LOT of books and she ends up naming her daughter after her?????! The woman was a controlling narcissist who wanted her daughter to think how she wanted her to think and to do what she wanted her to do and this was all wrapped up in inane 'flaky girl' humour set in a make-believe town of misfits. Years later I am pleased Rory blew off Logan. She is kind of paying for it now in the ten year update. When you meet a fictional guy like that, you hold on to him.

The film is very easy to watch and the cast is impressive. The mystery part is late in the story and very weak because the investigation is led by incompetents who don't solve the case. The mystery was explained but the film was missing a confrontation between the killer and the victim. I wonder if it would have been better to forego the amazing cast and use more lesser known actors if that would have spread the budget further and funded extra scenes because I felt the victim was painted in a good light when in fact he was a dishonourable man and the film, for me, needed to see that side that made him the murder victim. because of that I felt the film was incomplete.

If you like your heroes flawed and self-destructive and your books without any real substance or character development then watch all seasons on Netflix and buy the books. I should not have been cheering for George Warleggan (sometimes).

Good but incomplete. I wonder if continental European programmes are overly edited for British viewing????? The series was paced well. There were original twists and distractions and interesting subplots BUT I like limited series to tie up all their loose ends, explain every single motive and detail and give an indication of what will happen going forward. A lot of details and niceties were missed out, in my humble opinion and top that off with an unlikeable, overly assertive, female lead and an unlikeable female mother of a victim and a politician with a dubious personal and professional 'record' I have to settle for three stars, instead of four.
