***FIRST ANIME I WATCHED, AND FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE WILL BE MY ALL TIME FAVORITE***
*** KEEP SAO ALIVE ***
Like many who have written their reviews, this is the first anime I ever watched, many years ago now. By this point, I have most definitely covered over thousands of hours in all types of genres of anime, and I can say without a doubt in my mind, Sword Art Online is gonna be my favorite anime to the grave. Im so glad it was the first anime I watched, and I am sad that season 4 is supposed to be it final season. Without fail, every season has connected on a deep emotional level to me. In SAO they hit you with so many varying emotional rollercoasters, and they are all carefully created and executed perfectly in the final product.
I can see where some find a lack of interest in SAO, as many will say especially in season 2, but I am gonna be one to heavily disagree. Lots of people feel the show moves slow and the plot overall is rather thin and far fetched... though I think many have seen the show in the wrong perspective of expectations. Every half of each season until season 3 follows its own new subplot, and looking for the meat in how insane they are may leave you bummed, I can admit even I felt the change in subplot felt slow as they would have to properly introduce you into the situation. Now watched SAO 6 times over, when you come to focus on the feelings and virtual bond you connect to the main group, and placing yourself mentally in the scenario with them for the journey, the shows absolute awesomeness becomes so much clearer: The overarching plot is the relationships and bonds of the main character group that we experience and as we begin to feel empathy, care, and so much more for the characters, it almost feels like we can place ourselves into the show, despite is initially sci fi futuristic imagination, and the truth is, its not far from the near future's reality. As someone who wants to enjoy some suspense, some action, some awesome fights scenes, love, and the subject of video games, knowing the deep bond I have made with so many of my closest friends through the virtual world, I feel connected in another way to the entire show, and by extension the shows feels like a part of me, and in every way it is simply epic.
Beyond the base level, the show is crafter fantastically, animations are excellent and smooth, their creativity is awesome, I love every single intro and outro, contrary to how I usually skip them in every other anime, but with SAO I watch it every time in every episode because the background music just hits the right mood for the plot point in the show, and it again, hits a deep connection within me emotionally. The intro and outro scenes feel well connected to the plot of the show, and even help deepen the connection with the characters in the show more.
Even background music outside of the intro and outro is perfectly amazing. Characters are awesome, voice actors are awesome, animators are awesome.
Honestly if you're still reading this, I just freakin love SAO, and I know if you actually were interested enough to read this far, you will too, so go enjoy the show.
