Less a historical account than a soap opera created as a background for its true purpose as a promotion vehicle for the progressive agenda. Lots of scenes showing evil men trying to subvert and hurt the good and kind self-sacrificing women and a gay man. Also, the distracting insertion of multi-ethnic characters in 16th century England and Scotland made me wonder what the reaction would be to a reverse scenario in a movie. What if they cast white people as slaves in a film about the American south in the 19th century? I'm guessing that in addition to the liberal outrage there would be a lot of laughter at the absurdity of it. That absurdity is loud and clear in Mary Queen of Scots.
