I have been watching the Drum all week, comparing what’s happening in America to Australia’s Aboriginal people. We have a lot to be sorry about when it comes to our indigenous people in this Country. Reparation (whether there is ever sufficient restitution possible is a whole other question) is not moving fast enough. It concerns me greatly that in drawing these comparisons we are not helping matters, even globally and that we may be doing damage by creating a greater platform for division. I would suggest the main reason for this divide in Australia and the world has more to do with the political party we elect than anything else. Elect a Government that doesn’t believe in being responsible for the historical, ongoing ill treatment of not only our Indigenous population but the homeless, unemployed, disabled in our society and they will use this division is our society to maintain their political clout and reparation will never move fast enough. There should be no place for divisive governments in this day and age. Just don’t vote for them.
