This book was setup like it was intended to explain the origins of how Coriolanus Snow becomes the tyrant we know him as today, however the book offers very little insight on how Snow goes from being a sympathetic character to the number one antagonist. The entire time i was reading this i was on the edge of my seating waiting for the turning point where we see what causes Snow to go from morally grey, to pure black, spoiler alert, the moment doesn’t happen. Snow goes from being in love to being a monster in one page with little to no explanation as to why. Zero character development. Not gonna lie, the ending of the book, seemed rushed, not at all a satisfying or conclusive ending. Practically all of the characters in the book serve the same purpose, to show that Snow can and will turn on anybody, even the people he holds most dear, BUT I COULDA TOLD YOU THAT FROM THE VERY FIRST BOOK. Srsly, Sajanus, Lucy Grey, and Tigris could all be the same character. We didn’t need to see the same thing happen three times over. The only mildly creative thing was the Hanging Tree song and the significance it has to Snow, other than that the book doesn’t really offer much insight. Painfully hard to get thru, save yourself some time. Btw I love Suzanne and the entire Hunger Games series, but this was not it. NOT BUSSIN.
