Dan Mumm's Nonlinear Evolution is an excellent, no-filler collection of the virtuoso guitarist's most recent material. All instrumental and guitar driven, this album combines a vast array of musical influences, and although it could be loosely described as Instrumental Rock, the overall style found here is hard to classify. As a guitarist, Mumm has somewhat distanced himself from his earlier, neo-classical influenced work and gone down a more experimental road. The songs on this album feature some synth experimentation and a wider variety of rhythmic exploration than is found on his previous releases. Like many great artists in key points of their career, Mumm has now found his own unique sound. After a few listens, his sound becomes instantly recognizable and appreciated for the musical ingenuity found within.
