- Have always loved the show, despite it's MANY, MANY inaccuracies (from outdated depictions of German Uniforms & Equipment to the very poor/ inaccurate (for 1944) 'stock-film' from early (1939-40) WW2 era (German) footage used, The U.S. "stuff" (Uniforms, Weapons, & Equipment was almost all (I believe) provided by the U.S. Army (as WW2 "war-surplus"). so most of it is actually real/ original (the stuff we didn't give away to NATO countries !). The rest seems all to be an odd mix of OLD MGM props/ uniforms w/. nearly all vehicles being American, with only "Weapons Carrier" trucks being (strangely) a post-WW2-type, then in use. The German "Snipers" actually wear U.S.WW2 Camouflage Uniforms, etc. etc (I have collected "Militaria" (Military Memorabilia) since I was 12, (a hobby started, in-part from watching "Combat' & other "War' TV/ Movies ("Hell is for Heroes' etc) so I usually have to "turn-off" my particular btand of knowledge these days, to fully enjoy it) - (now watching once a week (again) on Sat's - Heros & Icons channel here in the FLA (wish I could have been 'crew'/ tech advisor on the series !
- The camaraderie depicts among Soldiers, seems "Authentic" (though I was a Marine in the early 80's) I don't need all the killing, but it "is- what-it-is".(prefer the psychological aspects of the show/ series seem best
- If you never watched an episode, try-it !
- a lot of my connection to this stems from "growing-up" with the series (I was born in Fall 1960, so I remembers some first airrings, & more during syndication in the 70's. A friend of mine was also able to attend some of the "Com-Boat' cruises later, and met most of the regular cast, & LIKED them ALL (I was in the service, and missed out on any such meetings, but I imagine i would have liked them, as well). The actors (esp. "guest-stars" are most of those I remember,growing-up) - Lee Marvin, James Coburn (hubba-hubba !) Ed Binns, Richard Anderson, etc/ etc - very relateable/ 'know' to me (unfortunately now most are 'gone')
- acting seems mostly "Military" (realistic) with less of the overall "hokey" than say "The Rat Patrol" (clearly more cartoonish & probably meant (at least originally) f/ a younger audience(?)) .
