Two years ago, I thought it would be worthy to re-read the Gabriel Allon series as I waited for ' The Cellist' to be available for purchase. And it was awesome to read again this captivating series, with their clever plot and charismatic character. That is, until I got to start reading The Cellist: that's when my surprise at the change of the author's writing left me speechless and without interest to finish the book. For some reason, Silva decided to destroy the Allon series and its intelligent character by inserting its political views into the plot.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not even American, neither I'm from English speaking background; my problem is that this series is a FICTION book, and I like to enjoy my books without the author interpretation of the latest political facts.
If I wanted to read about American politics in the last decade, I would have bought a no fiction book.
Why is it that authors, actors and celebrities constantly feel the need to express their political views in works of fiction/ tv series/ films etc? They can do that using their own social media/ interviews, etc. But no, they want to 'influence' and impose their views on others. For a while I didn't mind, but when their views started to filter pervasively in almost ALL communication/ art forms, I decided to stop it in its tracks. I just stopped watching, reading or listening.
Like other people, I'm able of selecting & reading reputable sources on different sides of the political spectrum to form informed opinions, without the patronising, arrogant lecturing of the opinion pieces of some journalists/authors/film makers etc.
That's it for me. No more Gabriel Allon for me, unfortunately, because I will miss the character, but after The order, and The Cellist I refuse to buy future Daniel Silva seudo nofiction books.
