Long time Trek fan that has watched every series right up to Discovery. I went into Lower Decks with very little expectations as the usual bar for New Trek has been set so low it cant really be called Trek anymore. Lower Decks however rises above the other offerings CBS has given us as of late. The story falls in line with what Trek used to be and, canonically is set right after DS9 but before Nemesis. There are references in every episode to previous series of Trek. The Federation officers act like they do in the classic series with some Rick and Morty sprinkled in. They don't try to force down any political agendas on the viewers and best of all it does not insult fans. You can tell right off the bat that care and love has been put into this series unlike STD or Picard. It doesn’t take itself very seriously and often makes fun of classic Trek tropes. Overall an excellent series that in my opinion is better than all the live action Star Trek shows that are currently in production.
