I feel it's a masterpiece from the point of view of acting, script, and commentary on what an emotional and sexual union between an intelligent man and woman could, and usually does, turn into. It's complex and brings in issues that may or may not be relevant to one's own marriage but certainly makes one think and consider the basic concept of monogamy and genuine love (and physical attraction). Also, what effect the destruction of these have on a child, growing up in turmoil, no matter how "reasonably" the parents think they're behaving. I loved it and look forward to watching the original Ingmar Bergman.
