As a huge fan of the Lion King series, I walked into the cinema expecting the movie to stay true to the original or make big changes. I would have accepted either if done well. The issue lies with the fact that it seemed like they didn't know exactly what they wanted the movie to be. Whether it be a dark rendition of the original or completely true to it. There were comedic scenes that made no real impact and songs that were cut short to include darker scenes. After watching Jungle Book(2016) I was happy with what was done with the film, they found the balance of the darkness and comedic relief of the story and portrayed it well, and that's what I believe The Lion King lacks. I give this movie a 6/10 which for The Lion King is saying something.
