I saw it as a kid and it's never left mt mind but i've forgotten the title and I'm glad i've come across it while just browsing casually. Now, I can watch it again. I was 12 when i first saw it, now I'm 43. I guess that kind of wrap it up on the impact the film can induce in a person. I didn't even know the lead cast. So underrated. One of the most powerful movies. Right up there among The Godfather, Platoon, Forrest Gump, Dead Man Walking, The Outsiders etc.. 'the biggies' I call them but folks don't talk much about it. May be the release year coincides with other great movies. Crowded release year and date can be really critical. It has been proven starkly by the bagging up of all the big awards by Forrest Gump relegating a very great and radical movie Pulp Fiction in the backseat. Also the theme, kind of christian movie this film is. The Hollywood folks and critics don't response too favourably to what could be seen as the Bible Belt's award nominee. The awards vote holders are pretty serious about being taken seriously, come religion, race and gender issues. They're dead serious about 'politically correct'(most ironical terms) while they are not very particular about wanton misinterpretation and even deliberate lies about political history I guess all my bad mouthing of the Hollywood guys came up because I have rediscovered many great movies which I revered all time but receives little kudos. I guess, in the end, this film is another victim of the many imperfections, to be honest, all industries tag along. Maybe, in spite of its bad impression, film industry is still quite fair compare to others like R&D, finance etc industries.
