I am so disappointed that after years of so called progress in Britain we have arrived at such "canned" values for women and men in society. The series with its apologetic rewriting of history describes a 21st Century still trapped in the shackles of conservative and prescriptive gender roles, masked in quasi-feminist, multicultural platitudes and garb.
What low expectations we have come to have: X-Factor style music, Eastenders style intrigue, girl-power slogans of a GAP sweatshirt...Pathetic!
Most worrying, is our casual acceptance of female abuse of men expressed in a scene where Daphne raped Simon so she could have children, despite the latter having experienced severe trauma, In our desperation for women’s rights we have so easily turned a blind eye to bullying, abuse and parental alienation
