After getting hooked on the series, I have picked up the books as I want to know what is missing, what is different, character history and detail that we do not get in the TV adaptation.
So far, the book lacks the entrancing detail and picture painting you find in those books that really grab you. I really do believe that without the mental picture of TV jamie and claire you would be somewhat lost on who these people are, what their personalities are like and the dynamic and chemistry between them and others around them. The handful of characters she did a good job with this actually was Murtagh, leah, Collum and Geillis. Im still reading on and giving it more time as I suspect this aspect hopefully improves. There's more to storytelling than relaying exchanged words between characters you're supposed to care a lot about.
As in a previous review, the wordage is repetitive. Sardonically. Im forever in search of synonyms to replace that bloody word.
All that to say, though, I keep going back for more whenever I get a chance and since I am listening to it on audible, I've had my bluetooth headphones at the ready so I can squeeze in a few more chapters as I work, clean, cook. So it can't be all that bad, as I usually only make it 10 minutes into books I deep are either awfully written or painfully boring.
