The background of the plot and its universe makes sense and is well developed.
The characters are well written for the most part and the acting is good.
The allure of the cult and the various supernatural happenings kept me binge-watching.
The ending was cool.
However, the show doesn’t know what it wants to be.
It feels like a long movie or a shortened hit TV show. Like someone(s) was too prideful of their writing, wanting to take their admittedly good story and put it out in the world instead focussing on refining it and developing it further. It would work better as inspiration to a movie. Hell, it would work even better as a more developed, longer TV show. Everything’s there. The magical backstory about the feud between the two families over the book, the cult, the Otherworld and this demon, the acting, the implication (due to the vast collection of mysterious items) of even more going on aside from Kaelego.
The vibe of this show could equal that of Stranger Things -instead, to me at least, it only felt like a good logical story that should have been the framework for a grander construction.
That’s the deal with this show: it works, just not as it should.
