DAMN good book. Could NOT put it down. As a retired naval officer, I have lived the world that Alex Fleming wrote about. His book is concise, descriptive, and engages the reader in his "journey" from a FNG ( Freaking New Guy ) to a seasoned Junior officer aboard a sub. In the book, he tells us his experiences in a world that is UNFORGIVING OF MISTAKES and of the culture that living onboard a submarine entails. His real world leadership experiences are gems that leaders need to read and think about. The stresses, the strains, the rough leadership lessons a newly minted junior officer goes thru are vividly told. He also cuts to the raw meat of why the sub service has such a hard time retaining qualified people with its culture of "eating the young" and long deployments. This book should be required reading for all in leadership positions in the service!
The only issue I had was the damn small print of the book. My old eyes got a workout but I could NOT put the book down! My compliments to the author
