Gwen Tiller

A biopic of Hockney, very of its time. I loved seeing him as a young man in Kensington, which I remember well from the 70s. This film would have pushed the boundaries back then and got Mary Whitehouse hot under the collar of her flowery frock. Quite avant-garde for me but I stuck with it as I love Hockney's art.

I have read Dickens, and watched many adaptations of the most famous novels. I saw Dev Patel advertised as the lead and was intrigued! I insisted my husband came with me, and we both thoroughly enjoyed this interpretation. The cinema was filled with other silver haired viewers who chuckled their way through, also. It was an eclectic cast and I found that really refreshing as it mirrored the world I live in, and probably the London that Dickens inhabited too. I have read that this has caused some consternation for some viewers. Presumably they didnt like the Muppets version of A Christmas Carol either? Absolutely 10/10 from me, and looking forward to buying the DVD!
