i started watching One Piece as a pretty fresh anime watcher. the only thing i knew about it was that it is notoriously long but it is long rightfully so (i didn't even know it was about pirates). i do have to admit that the first few episodes are boring and it was quite hard for me to get into the show initially. however, i am beyond happy that i continued to watch it. i believe the reason so many people love this show is because of the time commitment it takes to watch it. i personally, and i assume many others feel like i have truly gotten to know the characters. watching them grow from first setting sail together to taking down other pirates who were mentioned in the beginning of the show is what makes it so great. by now, i have watched my own fill of animes but i personally believe that no other show will be as engaging to me as One Piece. if you're willing to put in the time to watch at this point 1000+ episodes i would say it is totally worth your time. you go into watching One Piece expecting it to be tediously long but once you're caught up you wish it was longer. also if anyone is looking for a comparison to other anime, i would watch One Piece over any other of the big three(One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach) any day.
