This is from Debbie, not Chet.
The reviews are pretty much what I expected. Fans love it. The negative reviews, I imagine, are from people who are not fans and did not fall in love with the characters or the story.
If I were asked to review a Tarantino film, I'd probably hate it. I'd give it 1 star. So, take the reviews in that context. If, like me, you've been waiting 12 years for this, then you'll love it.
I am listening to the audiobook. I have laughed more during the first third (as far as I have gotten) than I have in a long time. Edward is absolutely charming. It's been a long time since he was human, so it's taking him some time to figure Bella out. His interactions with his Emmett are great, butnthe best best best is his falling for Bella. How he describes her is adorable.
I am really enjoying the audiobook a lot. The narrator is great. I will get the hard copy but I had forgotten the date and didn't want to wait.
Here is my only complaint: This is just a twilight book. 25 hours, so it is full of great stuff. But how great would it be if Stephanie wrote the others too? We could see into Edwards's mind as he prepares to leave her, his journey south, his family's actions during that time. Alice could keep an eye on Bella. Eclipse could show us how Edward finally comes to terms with changing her and the prospects of giving her the honeymoon she desires. Breaking Dawn could show us his fears for Bella during her pregnancy, his joy over Renesmee's birth and the struggle to find a way to convince the Volturi of her reality.
So here the deal: Either you love Twilight or you don't. I was so into the story that I joined a writing class and ended up penning a 274,000 word fanfiction.
Bottom line: Read it. Listen to the audiobook. It's Twilight. And, IMO, better written than any of the previous books. Love love LOVE it.
