I have always loved this movie for the story about the morals it teaches. People of low character generally remain people with low character. And those people of low character often rise to positions of power, where they continue to show low character. But Professor Hundert’s admonition of the older Sedgwick in the men’s’ room scene is spot on! I showed this movie to my 8th grade classes for years, and I always enjoyed my students’ opinions of all of the characters, and their different dilemmas. The list of questions that I drew up from the movie always led to an outstanding discussion afterward. I thought that Kevin Kline was terrific in the role of Professor Hundert!
