Joseph Izzo – Google

It was brilliantly executed. Great care was taken to prevent the film from creating talking points about who’s right. What it showed was the stark reality of what a civil war might look like. Acting was on point. People who are stating they wanted a back story completely miss the point. Most viewers want to be spoon fed a story. There weren’t many twists. It was told in a linear fashion. I don’t think an American Civil War needs plot twists or fancy tricks to illustrate the possibilities. There is a place for a movie like that but this was not it and I think it was brilliantly done.

I love it because of how well it reinvents the wheel. These movies have been done almost ad nauseam ~ maybe not almost. But This movie reinvents it. The good guys? Wait, who are they? Despite not knowing you find yourself cheering for them. Charlize is amazing. It’s clear she trained well for these fight scenes. Having prior experience fighting in her other movies, she brought it all out here. The stairs well Fight scene is top notch. No ridiculous music, just people trying to kill or be killed getting exhausted as try to win for the moment. Loved the movie. Highly recommend.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Not a fan of solo movies (or even “duets”) but this was surprisingly entertaining. Also, not a huge fan of Adam Driver but he changed my mind. You might ask, “If you’re not a fan of those, why’s you watch it?!” We all do delirious things late at night and I have no answer, :-) It wasn’t a 4, but it wasn’t a 3. Predictable, as in, very predictable, but enjoyable.

I’m typically not a fan of M. Night’s work. I call him Shamalama Ding Dong. His movies are too quirky for me. I liked Signs and this one. I liked this one a lot. The acting was well done. I’m so glad for Bautista. He’s really grown as an actor. The premise is definitely unusual. Plus, In this era of LGBTQ+, often it feels like forcing acceptance. This didn’t. It was just two people that were cosmically chosen and had to make a decision. That’s really all I can say without spoilers. I realize this might turn some people off but, if that’s why you don’t watch it, you’re missing a well made work of art. As with all of M. Night’s work, it’s out there. But I think he got a home run and the actors and directors brought it home, big time!

This is an awesome movie. I remember seeing it in V/H/S ( I still don't know why I sat watching V/H/S for so long. some of the shorts were good, this among them.) I remember seeing the short on which this was based and spent time on google researching various aspects of the film (Why'd she tear their groin apart?). They built this movie solidly. filled in little details with 'throw away' lines from the antagonist, who, by the way, was perfectly cast (I think). If you like suspenseful, (not horror) and definite aspects of a horror movie, this is a great find. It didn't get huge publicity but don't pass it up. ESPECIALLY if you saw the short on V/H/S.
