I think King was so angry with the Kubrick version that he wanted to show Kubrick and the world how it should be done.
The trouble is King is a genius writer, not film maker, and Kubrick is a genius film maker, and in this case Kubrick stripped away what he felt he needed to to make The Shining the masterpiece it is. The Kubrick version is incredible, and filled with hidden meanings throughout the film. But if it wasn’t for Kings inception the story wouldn’t have existed. This time Kubrick got it right and King didn’t like that.
The direction, characters, close ups when on characters, general landscapes, choice of camera filming techniques, music and sound effects are absolute perfection in Kubricks shining, and absolutely dreadful in Kings mini series adaptation, but Kings version is deffo funnier.
