PERANBU= As the title suggests, the film tries to convey the concept of unconditional and indubitable love to a larger audience, who are conditioned to believe, the attraction between opposite gender is the only love that there is. It's an off-centre story about unquenched sexual desires of a cerebral palsy afflicted child and her father's struggle to understand and deal with this quirky issue. What could have easily gone out of hands and would have made the audience feel nauseating turns out to be _tour de force_ mainly due to the director's poise. Kudos to the director for tackling this subject effortlessly with an absolute certitude which otherwise might be labelled as taboo. It's really heartening to see a tamil film with a premise about unquenched female sexuality, especially when the whole industry is used to perceiving woman through the eyes of men and take them for granted.
Mammoty as a single father who lives a bohemian lifestyle by living in subhuman conditions along with his deceased daughter who early in the film, gets into the skin of the character flawlessly, however for some inexplicable reason underplays the role.
Yuvan's uncharacteristically subtle background score along with an occasional euphonious songs supports the mood of the film. Child actress Sadhana's fairly convincing performance conveys the physical pain of the character flawlessly than the inter psychological dynamics of the character. We all are living in a conflicted world, where nature is brutal and where the concept of unconditional love exists only in literature. However attempts like these would give solace to a lot of wounded hearts. In fact that's a reason for the film success, and it's international recognition. It's flaws can be forgiven, since the contents nobility surpasses it's shortcomings.
