The series felt very white washed. I hated that they kept hinting that Selena's biggest wish was having an english only album. Whether or not this is true, it is extremely offensive to her Mexican fans who supported her and made her famous and who continue to listen to her Spanish titles. Not to downplay her versatility as a singer, but insinuating throughout the entire series that that was one of her biggest dreams is devastating to her brand and to those who are proud to claim her as one of our own despite her struggles with the language. There was only one significant scene when the actress who played her mentioned she was happy her father introduced her to "that side" of her that she wouldn't have known otherwise. That side, meaning her Mexican side.. this scene was more than I could bear because those who grew up living in the US while having just a morsel of indigenous qualities knows that whether you like it or not you are Mexican to everyone. The fact that they took someone who was so pivotal in connecting young Mexican American youth to their culture and depicting her as someone who much rather have been singing Jody songs is incredibly offensive.
