Being an artist myself, growing up those illustrations inspired me to do creatures myself. Except being seated next to a-hole, the movie was good. Yes some of it was predictable jumpscares, dialogue could have been delivered better. The build up to scenes could also have been better. I also think the creature design was a little generic although it took directly from the artwork, they did tone down the designs. This is especially seen from the spider story, the original art had those wicked eyes looking straight at you while the cheek was broken thru, however in the movie we see the cheek being popped but no closeup of the cheek after being broken thru. The build up was gross but the payoff should have been the damage done as well. Overall a good movie
