I'm personally someone who comes from a Desi background and I'm American teenager but I really think anyone who watches this would be able to enjoy it no matter who they are or how they old they are or where they came from.
At first, it just seems like you're going to see a typical Indian-American trying to be popular or something but as you continue to watch you feel a change in Devi and she slowly starts to find herself after her father's death.
It sounds kinda cheesy "finding herself" but it's like she can finally realize what matters to her and what she wants and how to grieve her father and remember all the good times she had with him and how she can finally be happy with her mother. Never have I ever had a show that I've related with on certain levels and cried with and laughed with for awhile. It's been a rollercoaster of emotions and I'm excited to watch more!!!
For some people, they think this show is "too cheesy" or "stereotypical" but I'm telling you, you have to connect to this show on an emotional level.
(I connected to this show because of my father, who is currently emotionally absent, and saw the love Devi's father felt for her. And you would think that I would be sad seeing what a nice father and daughter relationship was like, but it just made me happier and hope for more in the future.)
