Scifi/thriller/horror with the type of body horror that gives off a cosmic horror feel. I was pretty impressed overall. The practical effects were done well, very 80s vibe to it (which I really like that style). Interesting premise which is a lot more original that some reviews would have you believe. Yes, it definitely had similarities to The Thing, Alien, Annihilation, and the like, but I thought there was enough uniqueness in the explanation to appreciate it if you like those types of horror films.
The acting wasn't perfect, but not nearly as bad as some of the reviews made it seem. There are a few moments where things come off a bit awkward and stilted and a few instances of the audio not syncing up perfectly that do take you out of the moment briefly, but I thought they were pretty few and far between and overall was solid. Not perfect, but not terrible.
I don't know why anyone complains about the pacing unless they were expecting it to be a full on action type horror. It's not really that slow a burn. I can't stand most slow burn horrors, I get bored and lose interest quickly, and I thought the pacing was pretty well done. There are some things drawn out a little bit longer than they need to be, but this isn't meant as an action film. Those moments were used decently well to create tension.
The plot was a pretty simple "Scientific research gone awry" sort of deal, but it didn't need to be more than that. It answered enough questions while leaving some mystery.
