SPOILER ALERT
I haven't yet finished the series but regardless on how this ends my opinions wouldn't change. I think so far the show is very good. It's enjoyable. It's diverse in storyline, mood, cinematography and perspectives.
It's a great way to show that people are multi-faceted in their relationships. Everyone can interact and form bonds. It's not just about the main characters. As a long running season that's a good choice to make; there's enough time to enjoy all the storylines, the main storyline won't drag on and get boring and all characters have the space to be dynamic and three dimensional. There were times, though, when I felt that certain scenes
were dropped too soon and left unexplored. I feel like we could've gotten more time to watch Yuan Song and He Fanxing grow as a couple and as individuals before they broke up.
With that being said, there is one major point I cannot ignore. Ye Luming. He's a terrible person... Which isn't the issue. The issue is that the show doesn't take it seriously. He's made out to be a harmless, funny, childish, egotistical villain like the ones from those children's cartoons but he's not. I hate the fact that it was never addressed appropriately that this man took advantage of his friend confiding in him about her troubles to make things favourable for himself, even if that meant He Fanxing would be hurt and sad. Moreso he doesn't take He Fanxing seriously. He may like her but he treats her like a shell of a person that doesn't have their own feelings and thoughts. He disregards her true feelings and opinions instead of showing his love by supporting her in that. He's a selfish rat and a conniving jerk. He only treats people in her life nicely in order to gain their favour. He doesn't do it because he cares about the people she is close to.
I don't like Ye Luming and I'm annoyed that some people treat him as the "wonderful best friend who was overlooked" because apparently he had to endure He Fanxing speaking about her boyfriend. He's just selfish and shameless. I haTE that I have to watch him be with Fanxing for who knows how long.
I hate it the most because Fanxing's decision to be with him came out of nowhere. We were never shown her deliberation and thought process. She seemed stupid, allowing herself to be coaxed by Luming again even though she knows he lied to sabotage her relationship. Why would she believe what he says knowing he says things only to get the result he wants? I get that she's inexperienced in dating but just as Fanxing's father said dating isn't all that special or different compared to other types of relationships. Manipulation and emotional blackmail are not exclusive to romantic relationships. They treat Fanxing and her opinions and desires as child-lke, naive and insignificant just because she hasn't dated?
I'm actually ready to just skip episodes until the nonsense with Luming is over.
