al pacino is my dad

this is a fun spooky movie. I normally only watch movies highly rated on rotten tomatoes n google reviews but every once in a while watch a badly rated one because I often get surprised by them. this is one of those! not sure why it’s rated badly there’s nothing to complain about this movie. the acting is great, the plot is great, james marsden is very very hot. overall great fantasy adventure thriller movie, would rewatch! it really reminded me of season 1 of riverdale (before riverdale’s downfall) probably recommend this to teens or if u love james marsden as much as I do :)

SLIGHT SPOILERS OF BOTH BOOK AND MOVIE AHEAD. if u don’t want anything to be spoiled but u just want my recommendation of whether to watch/read the text, skip to the last paragraph starting with “OVERALL” :) the reason I picked up the novel The Shining is because of its reference in Friends (when joey finds the book so scary that he puts it in the freezer). it’s a creepy book, not one that kept me up at night though which I think only true stories have the ability to do to me. nevertheless, here is my take on both the novel and the movie: both are great, and I think they had just the perfect amount of difference between them. the novel really explored Jack’s good side and how he really did love Wendy and especially Danny. I think it was very interesting to see how Jack was deep down truly a good person who wanted to change. Jack’s actions in the novel were seen as more passive - it wasn’t Jack hurting his family at the end, it was the Overlook masked as Jack. this was rly interesting to me because we were able to see the “villain” simply as a good guy who had unfortunate luck and had done some bad things. the movie however, really played into his evil. there wasn’t really any scenes showing Jack’s affection for his family, it’s hard to sympathise for Jack’s character in the film. I liked this difference and both the novel and the film took different routes which I enjoyed. OVERALL, I think both are great. this is one of those stories where I think watching the film first and then reading the book would be just as enjoyable as the other way around because they end differently and explore different themes. the novel reveals what happens when ones inner demons come out. the movie is just a classic horror film that is fun to watch with some friends. whatever way u choose to experience this story, it will manage to creep you out just the right amount.

My absolute favourite movie of all time. Good will hunting will leave you in awe. It's a film I will never forget in my lifetime, it's filled with everything a perfect movie should have - drama, romance, heart, love, fear, trauma. It will warm your heart, break it then fill it right back up.The acting, soundtrack, script, plot, the life-changing feeling you get after finishing it, are all incredibly flawless. I love this movie with all my heart and I hope you do too!

no movie has charmed me this way. the movie went by so fast, it’s witty and I think has a lot to teach u. eloquently written with seamless transitions between different timelines. it’s so cool to watch a movie not about some epic romance (although I adore those too), but just a pair of ordinary people. people with flaws and a relationship that feels real. what I take away from this beautiful film: love hurts but we willingly go through all that pain because at the end of the day, it’s all we need.
