I've not beaten it yet but the time I have put into it has been lovely! I am constantly impressed by the implementation of the mechanics and am still running into new or just fun ways to use the abilities that I am given. The level design is also really good, specifically in the sense that it makes the world feel bigger while exploring followed by a welcome sense of familiarity when you follow the path you were taking back to a place you already were.
So far the story is familiar but with enough unique context given this new world that I am interested in seeing where it goes.
Enemies are varied enough so far and I keep running into new ones every so often which keeps things fresh and interesting. I do wish there were more narrative built around them and how they are different, though maybe that gets introduced later on.
Combat is simple but good. It is a classy example of how sometimes less is more when it comes to a characters abilities. I do like at how some abilities have other uses outside of combat though, which makes each new ability you get more exciting.
Overall I am incredibly impressed by Emberlabs. It really doesn't feel like it is their first game. I look forward to being able to put more time into each day and can't wait till I finish it. I hope this is not the last game with Kena in it either. She is a strong protagonist, both well voiced and animated, in a fascinating and beautiful world.
Don't know what more I could say about it, except that the music is also lovely and the shield animation is as stunning as that trailer led us to believe.
