Has not aged well. Just rewatched the Patriot on Netflix...forgot it’s so bad and is practically an RNC ad. Excessively nationalistic, Faux patriotism that reeks of a modern Trump ad, showing the “oppression of white Christians”, right to bear arms, myth of the happy well care for slaves, Mel Gibson’s bad acting and so much overly melodramatic cheese and predictable and tired Americana symbolism that doesn’t truly capture the time peiod or struggle for freedom. Skip this and watch Spielberg’s Lincoln instead. Mel Gibson is a right wing antisemite and this movie seems to be through his eyes. The church scene never happened and no event similar to that scene happened during the actual war. But Mel wants to distract and play the oppressed Christian card when it’s a complete fabrication and not based on reality. This is def the movie for a FOX viewer that wants a history lesson told through a modern conservative point of view to support their ideology and not facts or the truth.
