I am a "Movie Snob" in that I love them and watch way more than I should, my collection has over 5,000 movies and I watch some of them over and over,, I KNOW what I like.
And I love "Serenity" for many reasons.
Not being a critic I see movies as stories, and I don't restrict them to correct history or any of those other problems that critics seem to focus on, I let the storyteller tell me the story.
I don't try to "Understand" the story, I let it carry me to its ending while imaging the actors are who they represent.
A really good actor can make that easy, a bad actor makes it extremely difficult at best.
This movie had me from the moment it began because I was letting the story set itself up and by the time Anne showed up I was immersed in the life of the man and anxious as the story unfolded, but completely caught up with that world.
I don't get to nominate anything for an Oscar, but if I could this movie would be up for Best Picture.
I do not like everything that Matthew puts out, but he knows his craft and puts his soul into becoming the character and it shows.
As for Anne, I would have to ask you to step outside with me if you want to criticize her performance in this film, I found it to be her best work so far and her intensity was spot on.
It is a story, and a damn good one at that.
