This is by far my favorite adaptation of this book. (I was hesitant to watch it because I am quite partial to the George Cukor & Katharine Hepburn version.) Greta Gerwig's film, however, I may even prefer to the book itself. She's able to capture the meaning within as well as between the lines and share Louisa May Alcott's ideas, ideals, and story in a way that I felt when reading the book, but couldn't have imagined them being expressed so well. I don't know if Gerwig knows how incredible her creation truly is. The acting, the cadence of the spoken lines, the rhythm of the plot and juxtaposition of the storylines are only the beginning of what makes this film so amazing. I couldn't possibly recommend it more.
