UPDATE: I have changed my review to one star because after multiple patches, the only thing Ubisoft has managed to do is make the game more unplayable. It is at a point where I can't even scout a restricted area without the game crashing. Over the last three days I have been able to play exactly five minutes of this game. DO NOT BUY OR PLAY THIS GAME FOR CURRENT/LAST GEN CONSOLES, YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR MONEY!
I really wish I could give this game four or five stars, but after playing it for five days it is clear to me at this point that this is a game made for consoles that are not even on sale yet. This game would be amazing on Xbox Series X or PS5, but those don't hit shelves for two more weeks at time of writing (and that is assuming one can even find one on the shelves anytime before new years).
As it stands, the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Watch Dogs Legion are poorly downgraded ports of a better game. They are so poorly optimized for current gen consoles that they are completely unplayable. If you are trying to play Watch Dogs Legion on a current gen console, then you have my absolute empathy. If you are thinking about picking it up on a current gen console, don't. And that truly pains me to say because I honestly wanted to love this game.
The reason why I say this is because as of right now, on Xbox One and PS4 it is impossible to play Watch Dogs Legion for more than an hour without it crashing to desktop at least three times. I have had it crash on me at least five times in a single thirty minute setting, and have at this point given up on playing it altogether until a patch is released or I can get my hands on a next gen console.
Certain missions in this game are, as of right now, completely unplayable due to how often they crash the game. Some missions will even crash the game so hard that they brick your console for several hours due to overheating. And to make matters worse, it is entirely possible that the game will crash in such a way that it completely corrupts your save file; deleting all of your progress, and forcing you to start the game all over from the beginning.
The only reason why I am not giving this game a one star rating is because under all of its game breaking bugs, there is an utterly fantastic game buried within. In the rare moments I can get the game to work for more than thirty minutes it is just as fun, if not more fun, than any previous title in the Watch Dogs series. It is only a shame that Ubisoft decided to release the game in such a state that it is completely unplayable on any currently available console.
