Amazing setting, cool concept and mystery, and the actors play their parts well.
HOWEVER, I found it impossible to be immersed due to the way the characters are written. They took me out of my immersion very frequently, and in the same way over and over again, which spoiled it for me.
My problem in summary: the characters are presented with events that would be described as miraculous if they really occurred, and have little to no reaction.
The basic premise of the show is people returning from the dead. The characters see this and go “huh, how strange, better go about my day and not tell anyone about it or talk about it or investigate it or do anything a half-real person would immediately do”.
Imagine you are at home, and someone appears who looks exactly like you, and has your memories.
Do you A) freak out, then investigate thoroughly and logically, taking a DNA, telling everyone you can, and trying to figure out what the hell is going on or..... C) just go “ok” and have a coffee with them as if nothing has happened, and drop enquiries after a few questions??
Options like C make up most of the show, and I found it painful to watch. It’s all the more jarring when everything else about the show is heavily serious and realistic.
This means the show moves very slowly, which isn’t inherently a bad thing, but when you can see that the characters COULD advance the plot if they displayed any small amount of curiosity, critical thinking, open communication or just normal behaviour, the slowness becomes infuriating. There essentially is no payoff. No hate to whoever made it, but just not for me. Maybe I need to chill
It can be cool to watch if you like more arty stuff, I thought I liked more conceptual stuff too, but not all of it apparently. If you can handle ‘odd’ characters in a mystery show, you’ll probably like it because the concepts are interesting
