Lorrain envelopes us in sublime mood and the most sensual photography. It's a movie about greatness, loss; that crazed mix of triumph and fear.
I've read all the reviews in the press about the film being aloof, and without connection.
To me that's the whole point. Maria Callas is alone, haughty, disoriented, cold, superficial. It totally all worked for me.
Jolie is very good, the epitome of hauteur. She carries the film. Actually, she is the film and I think it's her best work ever.
Not for everyone but we loved it!!
