This movie was a cinematic letdown on multiple fronts. The film's reliance on modern day TikTok trends felt painfully forced and unnecessary. Rather than using these trends to enhance the storyline, the constant references came off as a desperate attempt to stay relevant. It seemed as though the filmmakers were more interested in pandering to a younger audience than in creating the main attraction to the film (Robinhood).
Adding to the disappointment was the abysmal score. The soundtrack was a jarring mix of modern day tik tok music and forgettable tunes that failed to complement the on-screen action. Adding Megan The Stallion rip off songs in every second of the movie. Instead of elevating the film, the music choices detracted from any emotional depth or engagement.
I feel like the scenes were way too short and it had too many different perspectives of victims that were affected that it made the movie so snappy and quick. Not one scene longer than 3 minutes..
What's most frustrating is that Dumb Money didn't need to rely on TikTok songs and masks to convey its contemporary setting in 2021. A well-crafted script, relatable characters, and subtle nods to the era could have achieved this without the heavy-handed use of social media references.
It’s such an insane story I guess I was expecting more of an Adam Mcckay Big Short’ kind of vibe. It did not give that at all. I felt like the writers strike was taking a toll and they needed to hurry up and finish this film. By the end it felt like a documentary.
Really Really bad stuff….
