For anyone who saw Bonfire of the Vanities, I highly recommend reading The Devil’s Candy by Julie Salamon. The author was present from the beginning till the bitter end for the making of this movie, and her resulting book is excellent. I read Bonfire, loved it. I doubt the movie could ever have done Tom Wolfe’s great book justice. A word about the casting, Bruce Willis was a poor choice to play Peter Fallow. Willis plays the same in every movie he makes, the smirking wise guy. Any good British actor might have made a big difference in the movie, which wasn’t that bad otherwise.
