This is hubris. The creators clearly think they can do better than Robert Jordan. Lots of unnecessary new scenes replace lots of necessary old scenes and then some. It reminds me of all the nonsense they added to the Hobbit to pad it out to a trilogy.
The dialogue is stilted. The acting wooden. I really want this to be good but it just isn't.
