'73, what a year.
A movie of its time. We forget this part a lot when watching good films. Who does the writer write for? as Vietnam just behind us this film is about as far removed from Nam as it could get without it just being a civil cop story. That out of the way,, its not a 'army movie' or navy movie for that matter, but a human story about a naïve young lad that probably shouldn't of signed up for navy service finds himself in big trouble and sentenced by the sledgehammer military court whereby Jack and partner [underrated natural performance by Otis Young] are assigned to handcuff escort him through civilian world and on to prison. A very likable prisoner, the kid unintentionally turns his escorts to look inside themselves with felling's of doubt that all is fare in the world of spit-shined subordinates...
