Sorry but as someone who really likes the work of all who are in this film,their parts in this production are really terrible.The story is scattered,the dialogue seems trite and as much as i love Deniro he is very corny as a jazz tenor player in that era or ANY era. I live in NYC now and then too and this film doesnt depict any of it! The musical numbers at the end come out of nowhere and the plot goes nowhere,and is not real to life as usually Scorcese is. The characters, like music agents and band leaders are all corny caricatures of real life...this ones a loser,sorry to say

I watched it and it was like a good page turner horror novel.( it credits a novel as basis of movie, so those with questions about story might try first reading the book.) Sandra Bullock was great as was the supporting cast. Like most S.King- like horror tales there are big holes in the plot but overall very done.
