One of the best of the film noir genres I've watched. Realistic characters, a compelling plot with interesting sub-plots, appropriately confined interiors and gritty exteriors. You'll be thoroughly absorbed in and by this film from start to finish. Real-life couple, Googie Withers & John McCallum, are simply superb! Devote 90 minutes to watching this wonderful film from 1947. [After watching the film, look up the actors' names: some had sad & tragic ends to their relatively short lives.]

An outstandingly atmospheric film, full of tension in a well-told story. Cinematography, direction, production values and acting, led by Burt Lancaster, are excellent.
