Very entertaining, but also heart-wrenching in the continual presentation of life and death situations for patients and doctors.
It is inspiring because it reflects my own experience as a patient; my family doctor is an excellent, perceptive and highly effective physician, but I have heard many experiences of bureaucratically straightjacketed, statistically correct unimaginative treatments that are common in the public (less expensive) health system.
In a memorable exchange, the leading character's wife talks to skeptical hospital donors at a fund raiser who are miffed by the doctor's absence, clarifying that he is not schmoozing donors so he can attend to patient emergencies. And as a result, the fund raiser is A TOTAL SUCCESS! I know, I know, not very realistic; but can't we fantasize about a better world?
