Wycliffe Nyangate

Everyone who rated this show badly, completely missed the point. This was not about accurately portraying a 14-year old boy. It was not about the boy per se. This is a parody, mixed with satire and other elements of comedy. Stop trying to compare it to other comedies that had different goals in mind. This was not a coming-of-age show for you to relive your teen days or for your teens to learn anything about what their lives are like. It is just comedy. Think of it as sketches with a storyline. Getting mad at this show for not accurately portraying what it is like to be that age, is like getting mad at Dr. Hadassah Olayinka Ali-Youngman, Pre-PhD, for not philosophizing correctly. You are missing the point. It's about laughs.

Lucky Dube truly was a master of the craft. He was the voice of the disenfranchised. I am a Gen-Z child and even though I may not have understood him the way he wanted to be understood when I was young, I listen to this album years later as an adult and his music leaves me with a sense of who we are as a continent, how we've glorified the West to a point where our own culture and voice is indistinguishable from theirs, even though we do not have the same historical background. He is a reminder that Africa is our home and that we should cherish it, feel its weaknesses, fill the gaps and rise together as one, to make our ancestors proud. Lucky Dube is an icon beyond comparison. A unique voice.

I am a huge Star Wars fan. I feel a little manipulated by The Child AKA 'Baby Yoda' :-) but I gotta say that this show is amazing. May the force be with the creative teams expanding the Star Wars universe. May the force guide their hand to craft their shows as carefully as the talented people behind this one have. Thank you Jon Favreau. I hated your "photorealistic" remake of Lion King but you reminded me why I liked you in the first place by putting this show together right after that. I forgive you, Clown from a Seinfeld episode. There is nothing edgy about this show, with its quick resolution of conflicts and sort of implied dark side of Mando, but I am in it for the nostalgia and on that front, my endorphins flow. Make sure whatever comes out next is edgier, high stakes, grounded, magnetic...I want to feel like you are feeding me tea using a spoon. This show feels like taking gulps of something sweet with no time to savor much. Other than that, one wrong turn and people will hate you more than they do now, Disney! Tread carefully.

I have watched and rewatched Last Week Tonight. I was young when Jon Stewart was still the King of Talk Show TV so, I cannot compare the two. However, I can honestly say that to me, at the moment, John Oliver is the King of Talk Show TV. I may not be American but I daresay that this is the best way for millenials (who have developed shorter and shorter attention spans) to find out anything about anything in America. Apart from VICE, this is how I find out what is happening in the world. I don't think there is anyone out there who breaks down boring content quite like the Last Week Tonight team does. Long live John Oliver, Long live HBO and keep the satire coming...
